CHAPTER 15

Blue

Mooky’s marriage wasn’t Blue’s concern. She hadn’t married the woman. She didn’t have kids with her.

Oh, hell.

Kids.

He had kids. Two of them. Teenage kids. Well, preteens. Thirteen wasn’t really teenaged. Right?

For the love of Christ, what did she know about kids or teens? She was barely out of her teens herself. Okay, fine. Twenty-three wasn’t exactly close to being a teenager, but still. There was an entire decade between Blue and Mooky’s oldest kid. She wasn’t mother material. She didn’t even know if she wanted her own kids. Now she had to manage someone else’s.

Left alone with her thoughts, she remained on the floor. Dizzy with reality and what it could mean, she felt safer on the ground. She didn’t trust her legs with standing. She could only fall so far, and the floor was as far down as she could get.

Clearly, she’d broken her moral compass somewhere along the way. Broke it? Hell, she’d slammed it against a rock, tossed it in a river, and watched it go over a waterfall. Was she seriously considering staying in this—sticking it out with him?

Yes. Yes, she was. He had papers. The divorce was imminent. What more could the guy do?

Blue stared at her blank sketch pad, but her mind couldn’t focus on art. Summary time. He wanted out of his marriage—point for him. He’d been separated—two points for him. He did everything to get out of it—three points. Things were looking good.

It wasn’t his fault she hadn’t signed yet. He couldn’t make her sign them.

Was he still married? It felt like a wild card—a flag on the play—a two-minute penalty for confusion. Did that count as married?

Yes. No? Legally? Maybe. She didn’t know. She wasn’t a freaking lawyer. She’d never done this shit before.

Pulling herself up off the floor and into a chair, she reached for the folder again. Flipping through the documents, she found some of the mediator’s notes. In skimming them, she reviewed his wife’s demands, the subsequent negotiations, and denials.

Clearly, for her—his ex-wife—she was still emotionally invested. The comments were written factually, but she could read between the lines. This bitch wouldn’t let Mooky go. She loved him.

Well, too fucking bad, skinny witch of the west.

Snorting, she rolled her eyes at herself. She should’ve felt bad for the other woman pining for Mooky. Unfortunately, Blue had met her. Perhaps, had she not, there might be room for sympathy. Seeing the woman in person and in action—yeah, no sympathy for her.

Shoving herself up from the chair, she growled. Blue needed to get the bitch off of her mind. Balling her fists, she paced the small room. She had to figure out how to refocus on something else.

There were no difficulties anymore. She desired all of Mooky, loved all of him, and had seen the evidence, heard it, and felt that he longed for the same. He wanted out of his marriage and away from the toothpick woman.

The wench needed to back off and let go. There wasn’t anything left for her.
